Trump urges Fox to fire 'disloyal' Paul Ryan

 June 20, 2024

Donald Trump called for longtime Republican foe Paul Ryan to lose his job as a board member at the Fox Corporation after he bashed Trump as "unfit."

“Nobody can ever trust Fox News, and I am one of them, with the weak and ineffective RINO, Paul Ryan, on its Board of Directors,” Trump wrote.

Trump urged Fox News' owners, Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan Murdoch, to "get that dog off your Board."

"You don’t need him. ALL YOU NEED IS TRUMP. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Ryan trashes Trump

Ryan has made no secret of his view that Republicans should sever ties with Trump, labeling him an "authoritarian narcissist" and not a real "conservative."

In a recent interview with Fox News' Neil Cavuto, Ryan called Trump "unfit." Ryan said January 6th is "part of" the reason he's against Trump, although Ryan didn't support Trump's re-election in 2020.

“I voted for him in 2016, hoping that there was gonna be a different kind of person in office,” Ryan added. “And I do think character is a really important issue. If you put yourself above the Constitution as he has done I think that makes you unfit for office.”

Ryan, while targeting Trump's character, also cast him as political liability.

“He’s cost us a lot of seats,” Ryan said. “He cost us the Senate twice. He cost us the House because he is nominating, he is pushing through the primaries people who cannot win general elections but who pledge fealty to him.”

Trump unloads on "pathetic" Ryan

Of course, Ryan's own electoral record is checked. He was the running mate for failed Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, another Trump nemesis, in 2012. Trump didn't hesitate to mention Romney's loss in a post calling on Fox to drop Ryan.

“He’s a total lightweight, a failed and pathetic Speaker of the House, and a very disloyal person," Trump said.

"Romney was bad, but Paul Ryan made him look worse. As a team, they never had a chance."

During the tail end of Ryan's time as Speaker of the House, Republicans controlled the White House and both chamber of Congress yet failed to repeal Obamacare or enact the budget reforms that Ryan, a self-described deficit hawk, had long sought.

Ryan also publicly undermined Trump's immigration agenda.
