Rep. James Comer appoints GOP lawmakers to committee that will oversee release of information on JFK assassination, Jeffrey Epstein, 9/11 and more

 February 19, 2025

House Oversight Chairman James Comer share the names of the GOP lawmakers who will sit on President Donald Trump's task force in charge of declassified documents, Just The News reported. The committee will expose information from Jeffrey Epstein's files and the John F. Kennedy assassination.

Comer announced the Republican members on Tuesday, including his choice for chairwoman, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida. The others are Reps. Eli Craine of Arizona, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Eric Burlison of Missouri, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, and Brandon Gill of Texas.

These lawmakers will make up the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, which will be in charge of handling the dissemination of information from the government's trove of secrets. So far, no Democrats have joined.

"Ensuring government transparency for the American people is a core mission of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. The Republicans on Rep. Luna’s task force are steadfast champions of transparency, and I am confident they will vigorously pursue and deliver the truth on critical issues," Comer said in a statement.

The Mission

Luna also released a statement to X, formerly Twitter, about her plans for the task force and its important mission. "First hearing will cover JFK," she wrote.

"I am looking to bring in a few people. To include an individual on the assassination record review board as well as someone on the House Select Committee on Assassinations. There will be a few more," Luna went on.

"Deep state mouthpieces are trying to take what I said and skew it. Cope harder," she added, calling out her detractors.

According to Fox News, Luna and Comer were busy sending letters to various agencies looking for documents. Some of those included the CIA over the origins of COVID-19, the Defense Department and CIA for 9/11 files, the National Security Agency and CIA over the JFK, RFK, and MLK assassinations, and the Justice Department for Jeffrey Epstein's files.

Enough Is Enough

President Donald Trump created this task force through an executive order to fulfill one of his many campaign promises. The president demanded a review to complete the release of the JFK files as well as those related to other political assassinations.

Comer believes this is important in restoring trust in the government. "For too long, the federal government has kept information of public interest classified, and the American people are demanding greater transparency," he told Fox News.

"This secrecy has sowed distrust in our institutions," Comer added. He said the task force would "build on the Trump administration’s efforts to declassify records of national importance and ensure Americans get the answers they deserve."

The Kentucky lawmaker praised Luna for her role in this assignment.  "Rep. Luna is committed to shining a light on the truth and ending the era of secrecy. It’s time to let the sunlight in and finally provide answers the American public has long demanded," Comer said.

The American people have lost faith in their government after decades of lies and coverups. Trump is restoring that and showing that he's a man of his word by keeping those campaign promises.
