Princess Anne back at home following hospitalization

Princess Anne returned home Friday after days spent in the hospital for a concussion caused by a horse.

The 73-year-old sister of King Charles III left the hospital Friday morning after five days in treatment for a head injury.

Anne, who holds the title Princess Royal, was hurt while walking at her country estate, Gatcombe Park. Her doctors said her injuries were consistent with a blow from a horse's legs or head.

Princess Anne back home

Buckingham Palace had said described Anne's hospital stay as a "precautionary measure" in an initial statement following the incident.

Her husband, Sir Tim Laurence, confirmed the news of her return home to Gatcombe Park on Friday.

“I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the team at Southmead Hospital for their care, expertise and kindness during my wife’s short stay,’' Laurence said.

Anne's husband had shared updates throughout the week, assuring the public of his wife's steady recovery.

He said she was "recovering slowly" when asked by reporters Wednesday and added, "She'll be out when she's ready."

A day earlier, he said, “She is recovering well, thank you. We are both profoundly grateful to the medical team and hospital support staff for their expert care — and to the emergency services who were all so wonderful at the scene."

Difficult time for royal family

Princess Anne is famously resilient, having previously received a concussion while riding on horseback in the 1976 Olympics. She got back on the horse and finished the event, which she doesn't remember completing.

“It was going very well and then I don’t remember anything else. Nothing at all,” she later said.

Anne has been one of the busiest members of the royal family, making her absence strongly felt at a difficult time when King Charles III and Princess Catherine of Wales are each fighting cancer.

She missed the King's state dinner with the emperor and empress of Japan on Tuesday, and it's not clear when she'll be fully back to work.

Thankfully, it appears Anne's recovery is coming along - although she still has some way to go. It has been reported that she is dealing with some memory loss because of the injury.
