Another FEMA whistleblower has come forward with troubling reports of political malfeasance within the federal agency, claiming employees there see Trump supporters as "domestic terrorists."
The chairman of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer (Ky.), shared the report as lawmakers grilled FEMA's boss Tuesday over alleged discrimination toward hurricane victims.
In a post on X, Comer said he received a credible report of a FEMA contractor threatening an elderly disabled veteran and his family in Georgia.
The contractor warned the family to remove Trump campaign material from their home, and they complied, fearing they would not receive help otherwise.
The FEMA contractor allegedly warned the family that his supervisors consider Trump supporters to be "domestic terrorists."
“My staff just made contact with a new whistleblower who provided a credible account that a FEMA contractor visited the home of an elderly disabled veteran’s family around October 10," Comer wrote.
"While there, he recommended that the family remove Trump campaign materials and signs from their house and yard, stating that his FEMA supervisors view Trump supporters as domestic terrorists."
"The elderly homeowners were so frightened by this and afraid that they would not recover their loss that they removed the signs. Nevertheless, FEMA has not returned to their residence. This took place not in Florida, but Georgia."
Concerns about discrimination at FEMA exploded this month when supervisor Marn'i Washington was exposed for telling workers to avoid pro-Trump hurricane victims in Florida.
Washington - who has now been fired - has said that FEMA is making her a scapegoat and that discrimination against Trump supporters is an open secret at the agency.
The head of FEMA, Deanne Criswell, repeatedly dodged questions from Republicans at a contentious House Oversight hearing Tuesday, where Criswell dismissed Washington's conduct as an "isolated incident."
“We are working with the inspector general to determine whether or not this is broader than this, but the evidence that I have seen so far shows that this was an isolated incident, and it has not gone beyond what this one employee did,” Criswell told the committee.
The FEMA scandal comes after Democrats spent years characterizing Trump's movement as a dangerous fifth column undermining "our democracy." However, since Trump's re-election victory, Democrats who previously compared him to Hitler have congratulated him on his win.
While many prominent Democrats obviously do not believe the hyperbole they spew about Trump, their unhinged rhetoric about Trump and his supporters is having real consequences.
