Federal judge clears Rep. Ronny Jackson's lawsuit against Biden admin over UNRWA funding

 June 29, 2024

Texas Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson scored a major legal victory to end the week that could have substantial implications for the Biden administration.

According to the Washington Examiner, the Texas Republican was granted standing by a Texas-based federal judge to file suit against President Joe Biden's administration's continued funding for the United Nations Works and Relief Agency (UNRWA), which is said to support Hamas terrorists.

The judge denied the federal government's request to quash the lawsuit, giving Jackson the green light to take legal action.

Jackson had originally filed the complaint in December 2022.

What's going on?

Former President Donald Trump had originally terminated U.S. funds for the controversial group in 2018.

Not surprisingly, the Biden administration reinstated funding, which triggered Jackson's legal response.

The Examiner noted:

The Texas Republican alleged the Biden administration “unlawfully” reinstated the funding, giving more than $1.5 billion to Gaza in part through UNRWA funds. The plaintiff accused the government of violating the Taylor Force Act and the Administrative Procedure Act, which prohibits assistance that “directly” benefits the Palestinian Authority.

In April 2023, Biden's federal government made the move to have the complaint dismissed, arguing that Jackson lacked "standing" to bring the lawsuit forward.

The Examiner added:

In his decision, Kacsmaryk rebuffed the Biden administration saying in part that Jackson "was not referring to something amorphous or indeterminate, but to … [the Trump] administration’s termination of Economic Support Funds in the West Bank and Gaza and ceasing of contributions United Nation’s Relief Work Agency."

Whole new meaning

Keep in mind that all of this played out long before the Hamas-led attack on Israel in October 2023.

Revelations, based on accusations, that UNRWA played a direct role in the attacks that killed and injured thousands of innocent Israelis shocked the entire world.

At least 12 members of UNRWA reportedly worked alongside Hamas terrorists to carry out the attack, making Jackson's lawsuit to stop the U.S. from funding the organization a no-brainer.

Only time will tell how far the Biden administration fight's the legal action. It's embarrassing to think they'd fight it at all at this point.
