Donald Trump Jr. brought his new girlfriend, Bettina Anderson, to the Capitol on Tuesday night to hear President Trump bash his Democratic opponents in a major speech to Congress.
Anderson, 38, was shoulder to shoulder with 47-year-old Donald Jr. as politicians crowded into the House chamber. It was a formal date night for the couple, but there was plenty of light-hearted entertainment as the president roasted his sour-faced opposition with his usual blend of crackling humor and political polemic.
The president dubbed his predecessor, Joe Biden, the "worst" president in U.S. history and reprised his mocking nickname for Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Ma.) as she cheered the continuation of the war in Ukraine.
"You want to keep it going for another five years,” Trump said, singling out Warren. “Pocahontas says yes.”
Anderson's appearance at such a major event is the latest example of Trump Jr.'s efforts to bring her into the Trump family's inner circle.
The Daily Mail was first to report Trump Jr.'s affair with Anderson in September, when the two were spotted spending time together in Palm Beach. At the time, Trump Jr. was still engaged to ex-fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle.
The president's eldest son has since brought Anderson to a number of official and semi-official events, including his father's inauguration and the Super Bowl, where Don Jr. made the relationship "Instagram official."
Trump Jr. was seen taking a selfie with Anderson before the president took the podium Tuesday night. Three of the president's other children - Ivanka, Eric, and Tiffany, and their respective partners, Jared Kushner, Lara Trump, and Michael Boulos - were also there to cheer the president on, along with First Lady Melania Trump.
Democrats pouted and jeered through Trump's remarks, which ran for almost two hours, touching on a wide range of topics from immigration to Trump's efforts to trim government waste with Elon Musk.
The fireworks started within minutes as Democrats booed Trump for bragging about his electoral mandate, and one Democratic lawmaker, Al Green (Tx.), was expelled for causing a dramatic scene. Despite the disruptions, Trump was in a buoyant mood.
“Just listen to some of the appalling waste we have already identified,” the president said. “$8 million to promote LGBTQ+ in the African nation of Lesotho, which nobody has ever heard of,” he quipped.
The president alternated sharp jabs at his Democratic adversaries with tributes to the victims of far-left policies on crime and immigration, like Laken Riley, the young Georgia nursing student murdered by an illegal alien while jogging last year. Trump also honored a 13-year-old boy with brain cancer, DJ Daniel, whom Trump made an honorary member of the Secret Service.
The bitter optics of the Democrat lawmakers, who remained seated during these touching moments, became a point of criticism for many including Trump Jr.
"If you can't stand up and cheer for a kid with brain cancer being made an honorary member of the Secret Service, then you might be a deeply disturbed and f----- up person!!!" Trump Jr. wrote on X.
