Kamala Harris confessed to owning a Glock handgun during an interview with CBS' 60 Minutes, a startling admission that is at odds with her agenda of gun control.
“I have a Glock and I’ve had it for quite some time,” Harris told interviewer Bill Whitaker.
Harris has made strategic references to being a gun owner in an apparent attempt to moderate her image and soften her demands for gun control.
She mentioned being a gun owner during her September 10 debate with President Trump, who has accused her of wanting to take Americans' guns away.
During an interview last month with Oprah, Harris said she would shoot anyone who dared to break into her home.
Harris' recent enthusiasm for her gun has left some incredulous, as the vice president has seldom mentioned her firearm until recently.
During her interview with 60 Minutes, Harris said she owns a Glock, citing her background as a prosecutor.
"I have a Glock, and-- I've had it for quite some time. And-- I mean, look, Bill, my background is in law enforcement. And-- so there you go."
When asked if she has fired the gun, Harris laughingly said she had.
"Yes, of course I have, at a shooting range— yes, of course, I have.”
While some are skeptical of Harris' gun ownership claims, others see her statement as hypocritical because of her longtime support of gun control since her days as a prosecutor in San Francisco.
In 2005, then-District Attorney Harris supported Proposition H, which would have banned handguns in the city.
Some have also questioned if Harris is following the gun laws in Washington D.C., where firearms must be registered, and residents are barred from having a magazine with over 1o rounds.
While Harris didn't say what kind of Glock she has, some models carry over 10 rounds.
DC residents have to register their firearms.
And DC issues a gun-registration ID card for each firearm, with the make, model, and serial number.
Post your card, Kamala.https://t.co/tt9hFCTfPm https://t.co/oxnUHLKfnF

The 60 Minutes interview was widely considered a misfire for Harris, who struggled with Whitaker's direct questioning on subjects like immigration.
Whether Harris is a liar, or just a hypocrite, her latest comments about guns are unlikely to alter perceptions that she is aligned with the left.
